Fashion at large has a history of stepping over the line in attention-getting attempts to be provocative but last week Balenciaga Gift Shop photoshoot left people in shock. The campaign featured children holding bondage-adjacent teddy-bear bags, situated on a set decorated with BDSM paraphernalia and wine and beer glasses, shot by Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti. After facing major backlash, the famous fashion house quickly removed the campaign images and apologized for their offensive photoshoot. A second campaign featuring Nicole Kidman and Bella Hadid showed a $3,000 bag with papers about child-pornography laws strewn across the desk which caused backlash on a world-wild scale. In the past few days Balenciaga has been accused of condoning, even glamorizing, sexual violence against children. An invisible addiction

Unlike other more visible addictions gambling is fairly easy to hide, yet it leaves people alone, ashamed and often broke. Addiction to gambling has drastically increased in the past couple of years. It has been mostly fueled by the pandemic and major growth in legalized sports betting. After the 2018 Supreme Court decision, which cleared the way for sports betting legalization beyond Nevada this type of gambling spiked nationwide. Currently, thirty US states allow some form of sports betting. The leagues, gambling companies, state, tribal governments and others profiting from this form of gambling are earning enormous amounts of money. Another factor that increased America’s gambling problem has been COVID-19. Dealing with stress and other problems caused by the pandemic led people to fall into addiction more easily. Snow crabs in Alaska

Alaska officials have cancelled the upcoming crab season, due to population decline across the Bering Sea. The causes of the population collapse are still researched but it’s most likely increased predatation and stresses form warmer water which may cause crabs shifting away from the coast. The decision to shut down the harvest will most likely affect fisheries and fishermen. Some of them can go out of business and lose their source of income. The fall red king crab harvest was also cancelled (for the second year in a row) due to low number of mature female crabs. Although the numbers have improved since last year it’s still not enough to allow harvesting this species. Thailand – the rising weed empire For the past several years California has been the largest legal weed market in the world but now this is about to change. Although Thailand used to execute drug traffickers, things began to change when in 2018 Anutin Charnviari (Thailand’s health minister), began promoting marijuana for medical use. He saw cannabis as a potential cash crop. When the legislature finally legalized pot in 2022, Auntin and the government launched a campaign to distribute a million free cannabis plants to Thai households. Cannabis is expected to generate anywhere from few hundred million to several billion dollars a year in the near future. As opposed to the USA, Thailand has no federal laws that prevent banks or other financial institutions from working with pot firms. Soon, Thailand could surpass Amsterdam and the USA as a global destinations for cannabis cultivation and consumption. Iran protests

The protests started after the death of Mahsa Amini and now the have spread across the country. Mahsa Amini was arrested while visiting Teheran because of the way she had veiled her hair. Although the police announced she died of natural causes she was most likely tortured and killed by police officers who arrested her. A report from the Theranian hospital says that ‘’she has suffered a concussion from a blow to her head’’ and that was already dead when she arrived at the hospital. Protests have been spreading online despite attempts by the authorities to stop Iranians from using social media to learn about the incident. The protests have been held in Mahsa Amini’s home town Saqqez, Teheran and many more cities all over the country. There have been already over 41 deaths among protestors, at least 4 of the dead were children. Three-D printing has become more and more popular over the past several years. It is a process of creating three dimensional solid objects by laying down layers of material until the object is fully formed. Now this technology is also being used to build houses. This alternative method of building uses robotic arms which print the house layer by layer just like a normal 3D printer but on a larger scale. This method is growing in popularity due to its many advantages. First of all the design possibilities are almost endless, secondly 3D printing is relatively cheaper than traditional construction methods. They are very quick and efficient. It’s also important to know that this building method is good for the environment. 3D printers create almost no waste and typically use more eco-friendly materials to build a house. The amount of excess shipping containers in the world has become a huge issue. Some of the used containers were only used once because it’s cheaper to produce new containers than to import them back to the producer. Architects decided to use them as a part of building constructions. This solution is not only sustainable and can help decrease the carbon footprint. It is also much cheaper than a standard building construction. Containers can be either brand-new - usually imported from China - or used and sold by local sellers. Although used shipping containers are more eco-friendly it’s important to check their condition and certification.
